Brendan
Fullam
Brendan
Fullam is a native of Ardagh, County Limerick. His love for the
game of hurling was fostered in the local hurling field as he
watched the team members’ practise, admiring their skills
and dexterity.
And
of course there was the magic voice of Micheal O’Hehir who
brightened many a Sunday afternoon with his broadcasts of contests
from different venues throughout the country. Micheal captured
the excitement of the occasion and played a key role in popularising
the game among the youth of that time.
Brendan
joined the National Bank in the early fifties. In all the towns
where he served – Killorglin, Kilrush, Clifden, Ballyshannon,
Wexford, and Tralee - he found the local GAA field a place of
wonderful recreation, a place of friendships and shudders to think
what life would have been like without it. Those days reflect
an Ireland that has now changed beyond recognition.
Brendan sees his various books as a contribution towards honouring
the GAA and in particular its wonderful hurling men; also an expression
of thanks for the manner in which the Association and the game
of hurling enriched his life.
Brendan
has written a number a highly successful sports titles for Wolfhound
Press; Giants of the Ash, Hurling Giants, Captains
of the Ash to name but a few. The Throw-In: The GAA and
the Men Who Made It is his most recent sports publication
for Wolfhound Press.
