Moss
Keane
Maurice
Ignatius Keane or ‘Moss’, as he was known to countless
rugby fans all over the world, is a sporting legend. Keane is
far removed from the caricature of the ‘wild Kerryman’.
He is a well educated, complicated, intelligent individual.
Moss
was, first and foremost, a successful Gaelic football player.
He was capped fifty-two times for his country. He toured New Zealand
with The Lions in 1977. Moss won several of the games top honours,
yet the giant of a man failed to get on his school Gaelic football
team! This man, who would go on to play for Kerry, didn't take
up rugby until he was twenty-two!
A highly sociable character, Moss survived hepatitis and a near
fatal mugging, numerous stitches including sixteen in his very
first cap for Ireland against France. Keane emerged from it all
as a homespun humorist and philosopher with his own unique spin
on life.
Moss
Keane is co-author of Rucks, Mauls and Gaelic Football with
Billy Keane.
