Ultan Cowley

Ultan Cowley was born into a theatrical family in Ireland in 1946. At the age of fifteen he first ‘took the boat’ to Britain, where he lived for many years. As a mature student he attended Essex University and the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, before returning to Ireland to lecture in Modern History at University College, Cork.

The Men Who Built Britain: A History of the Irish Navvy was a huge success on it’s first release for Wolfhound Press in 2001. It has been republished in paperback form also by Wolfhound Press in recent years.
